Frequently Asked Questions

Why use LootTap?

Well, we've made a page to answer that great question specifically. Though, to summarize, it's simple. Whether you are looking for something rare, regular work; or searching for anything on a regular basis. You can tell us what you keep searching for and we will search for you, always; wherever you'd like. When we find something, we'll toss it into an email and send it your way. Learn More

How often will I get emails?

We will only email you during the day by default as we figure you won't want to wake up to an inbox full of our messages. Otherwise, we will send you an email as soon as we find anything related to your search. However, we won't send you another email for the same search for another hour. The next email (and the first of the day) will, of course, include all search results you haven't seen before and since the last email. These settings are adjustable in your personalized dashboard as well. Learn More

How many searches (taps) can I have?

As many as you want. As long as you want a maximum of twenty (20). You can also turn them on and off at your leisure. Learn More

Where did all of my old taps go?

To help keep the dashboard a little more tidy, we don't display an endless list of expired taps. Rather, we will display those that expired within the previous 15 days. If you wish to review or activate ones older than this, we have provided a "See All Expired Taps". Clicking this will expose the rest of your expired taps. Learn More

Will my taps last forever?

No. They last 45 days from the time you create one. However, once they're expired, you can re-activate them for an additional 45 days. You can do this as many times as you would like. Learn More

Why do you want my email and name?

First, feel free to glance over our Privacy Policy. It outlines we never ever use or sell this information whatsoever. Furthermore, we use industry leading encryption technologies to store all your personal information along with the most stringent security policies around. We only use this information to keep in contact with you. Your name, which is fully optional, is only used to spice up our emails and site with a little personal flare. Learn More

Why not just use Google alerts?

Absolutely you can. Although, with LootTap, you get to specify the site, location and (sometimes) category in which you want to search. Furthermore, you can expect real-time results; you don't have to wait for Google to find it, we just go directly to the source you're most interested in. Google alerts is great for some cases, but when it comes to being the first in line to an item that's otherwise hard to find, your choice should be LootTap. Learn More

Why can't I always set a price?

Not all sites are created the same. Where eBay, for example, requires and sustains a bidding price, some classified sites let people key in arbatrary input which may or may not contain a price. At this point, we can only reliably use price filtration on sites which have a guaranteed price we can filter on. Learn More

Why aren't my results exactly what I'm looking for?

By default, we use a generalized keyword algorithm, tuned for the relevancy of what you are looking for. This will result in some tangental products along with the product you are looking for. Some people like this for some taps, some people don't. Don't worry, if this isn't your cup of tea, you can also search for products specifically. Learn More

Can I search for specific products?

Absolutely! When you're forming your tap, simply click the "" icon in the example results. This will format your query to search for the product specifically. Or, if you know the ISBN or UPC of the item you're hunting for, simply create a tap with the code, prefixed by it's type (eg. "upc:xxxxxxxxx" or "isbn:xxxxxxxxx"). Learn More

Is LootTap awesome?

Yes. The awesomest.
